Top of the World, is going to be our crowning glory, our jobs are known for trees and beauty, just go look at the ones down the street in Ashland, where the trees are so wonderful, at Strawberry Patch,   ( it was a strawberry field for a farm  where the shopping center sits on Rt 126 and Elliot Street. Just behind the shopping center, is the section of townhomes, I called Strawberry Patch to remember forever the past, when my friends and I walked up the hill from our houses in Framingham to the farm.....Often there were jobs picking strawberries available if the "kids" wanted them , but most had paper routes, and baby sitting jobs.

The area, including  Ashland and Holliston, is rich in history, with street names like Meeting House Path, in Ashland, because in early Colonial days, people went to their meeting house by horse and wagon paths.  Old Connecticut path came somewhere near by , so we named a street near where it could have been, in Colonial days, Old Connecticut Path, just down the road in Ashland., off Chestnut Street,... and in Holliston, we have Governor Prence, Mohawk, and other names to honor the past..

Village of America, Ashland, Mass, have you figured it out yet?

Yes, if you have figured it out....it is  a lesson in history by association with the progress of our construction. Our beautiful New England countryside was once the home of proud Indians, who fished in the ponds and rivers nearby, they had a good size Indian Village off Fruit Street where we built Great Bend Farm, named after the Indian location, that was called Place of the Great Bend  ( in the Sudbury River)

Village of America qualifies for that location too, because you can see the bend in the Sudbury River if you trace it from the waterfall near town, where it heads over toward the Dairy Queen and suddenly turns left back toward Framingham where it came from originally.

Once there were water ski shows on the reservoir, along route 135, and once a beach on Farm Pond in Framingham with an active picnic area, but that was all long ago.  The train station that took the summer vacationers out of Boston to John Stone's Inn, is still here,  as is the historic old Inn.  Today  the train takes the daily commuters to Boston.  Imagine folks in Boston, once came west to vacation in summer!

When I was a little girl, my friend Bobby Thomas and I used to walk from our homes just down the street in Framingham to a place near here, we called it elevator rock, because we thought it was sky high.  Maybe because we were young we did not know it, but we might have been standing in this beautiful area of Holliston, those many years ago.  It was our blueberry patch  in the sky, in the days when "kids' were allowed to roam for blueberries and parents never knew where we were. Oh, oh!

When the pilgrims came, like all of us, they moved west to the country.  It was always about land.  It sill is about land.  This land belonged to the Leland family, who owned many acres in the Metrowest area, including all the way to Milford where we finished our last single and multi family homes about a year ago.  The Leland family owned what seems like the whole area around here, which is approximately where the 4 town corners meet, the intersection of Fruit Street, Ashland with Rt 126.

Leland Stanford, who founded Stanford University was a member of this pioneer New England family and founder of the Union Pacific Railroad.  We are steeped in history....the streets carry the names relating to the past...and sometimes when you look at the sky as the clouds dip down to kiss the earth here, you think you are in heaven.
